About the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (SoLAS)
SoLAS offers unique opportunities to acquire domain knowledge and generic skills enhancing students’ capacity to face the professional and personal challenges of our time. Our teaching/learning is rigorous, interdisciplinary and future oriented. Our students have opportunities to participate in a range of curricular and extra-curricular activities to acquire competencies and acquire facility for navigating real world professional and personal challenges.
The learners are given wide-ranging opportunities to design their unique educational journey by choosing among a large basket of major, minor and elective courses. Our experienced, passionate faculty are drawn from the best of the universities and organisations. Our national and international collaborations provide opportunities for students to engage in internships and other collaborative activities enhancing and complementing their classroom learnings. Our pedagogy is aimed at developing thoughtful and creative individuals striving for excellence in their chosen fields of specialisation.

Our programs offer a diverse range of courses designed to enhance graduate skills in areas such as reading, writing, critical thinking, self-expression, and research. The first semester of the foundation year focuses on developing core, transferable skills that serve as the foundation for successful careers and a fulfilling life. These essential skills are further reinforced and refined throughout the duration of the program, ensuring sustained growth and application in various professional and personal contexts.
Interdisciplinarity
We offer students the opportunity to explore a wide range of disciplines in the sciences, social sciences and the humanities before selecting their major and minor disciplines. The second semester of the foundation year is specifically designed to introduce learners to key themes and debates across these fields, equipping them with the knowledge and perspective needed to make well-informed academic and career choices.
Experiential Learning
Our curriculum is designed to equip students with practical skills essential for thriving in their careers and personal lives. Students engage in a variety of immersive experiences, including the India Immersion Programme, extensive internships, and performing arts electives. Additionally, our classroom activities are carefully structured to provide rich and dynamic experiential learning opportunities.
Research and Training
We offer students comprehensive exposure to academic research, fostering their ability to engage in scientific inquiry and academic writing. Through training in research methods and critical analysis, students gain the tools needed to undertake both academic and applied research projects. By the end of the program, they will be well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to diverse research endeavours.

Foundation Year
Our innovative liberal arts foundation year is designed to achieve two key objectives: cultivating a wide range of graduate skills and providing meaningful exposure to interdisciplinary learning.
First Semester
Focuses on developing essential graduate competencies such as critical thinking, effective reading, academic writing, public speaking, debating, and practical skills for navigating complexity, uncertainty and ambiguity in professional and personal settings.
Second Semester
Introduces students to key themes and debates across disciplines, empowering them to make well-informed choices about their major and minor areas of study.
This unique foundation year provides students with a strong intellectual and practical
base for future academic and career success.
India Immersion Programme
The India Immersion Programme (IIP) is a mandatory immersive residential programme organised for first-year students during the summer. It provides an opportunity to step away from the inevitable routines and expectations of urban life and immerse themselves in a way of life that allows a deep connection with nature, and a reconnection with silence, reflection and intuition.

Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (SoLAS). We are a multi-disciplinary School educating young minds to excel in their chosen area of specialisations. Our pedagogy is structured to enable our learners to successfully navigate complex realities. We are driven to not only train our students to acquire comprehensive and in- depth knowledge in their areas of specialisation, we also place equal emphasis on acquiring broad and generic skills that will help the learners to creatively engage with complexities of professional and personal contexts. Our trained, experienced and passionate faculty use innovative, immersive and relatable teaching methods to make our classrooms lively and engaging. We expect our graduates to excel in their chosen areas and creatively engage with social, economic, political and ethical issues. Our students are encouraged to conceive careers, in a broader sense, to contribute to the larger good of the society. At our School, we believe education to be a key catalyst in developing capabilities, orientations and skills that will enhance learners’ capacity to lead a meaningful and successful life.
